Who am I: Born in Singapore, grew up in Hong Kong, currently residing in the US. I am a university student studying Mechanical Engineering. Since the question of age will invariably be brought up, I’ll just say I was born in ’92.
Describe yourself: Just to be Captain Obvious, I like watching anime. I also like reading manga. I used to be an avid gamer and mostly played FPS, but I stopped doing that for various reasons. Since then, I’ve started getting into blogging. I ran my own blog for over a month before deciding to head over here. I first discovered AOIA sometime in ’11, but the only blog I ever really followed was Random Curiosity, so I’m sorry to say I didn’t visit that often. My post style is heavily influenced by them, if not almost the same. This means that I write episodic summaries/reviews. Since I’m relatively new to all this though, I’m not the most savvy or insightful writer. As such, any suggestions, criticism, or general comments on how I can improve are welcome.
What kinds of anime do you like: Whatever piques my fancy, which is a lot. I specifically enjoy something action-packed or thought-provoking, but really, almost anything entertains me. I’ll take this moment to also comment on a “trend” I’ve noticed. It seems like a lot of bloggers/writers like to bemoan and complain about the vast majority of anime shows. While there are certain shows that are in fact “dissatisfactory”, I find that I don’t object to a lot of the ones that are mentioned by such people. It makes me wonder if they even enjoy anime any more. Regardless, I’m fine with so-called “generic” anime as long as they manage to keep my attention for the ~24 minutes of each episode. Fanservice is fine too. I don’t particularly care unless it gets to Seikon no Qwaser/Queen’s Blade levels.
What are your top anime: I don’t generally like to decide things like this, but if you put a gun to my head, I’d probably say
- Darker than Black
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
- Kara no Kyoukai
- I also like music, so good soundtracks and catchy OP/EDs are a plus.
- When I used to watch TV, I loved Sci-Fi.
