50 Questions with Carillus

I couldn't be assed to look up Pixiv images, so here's one of my own drawings I did for Valentine's day. For more shameless self-advertising, head over to http://www.facebook.com/fnpcarillus

Hey, let’s jump on the bandwagon and stuff. Credits to AceRailgun for starting this, and to @fkeroge for showing us that free time is just a synonym for ‘get your ass on the blog and do something, anything’.

Anime

1. Who is your favorite male anime character?

Oh, you can rise my sun anytime, if you know what I mean

Thirteen Orphans: One of the highest value hands in Japanese mahjong. Involves making a hand so ridiculous if you even start thinking of making it, you're basically cutting off everything else.

Junichiro Koizumi, former Prime Minister of Japan, in Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku. Taro Aso (also former Prime Minister of Japan; they sure do go through them quickly) comes a close second, followed by Vladimir Putin (Russian Premier). Yes, all from the same series. Yes, the one about mahjong.

2. Who is your favorite female anime character?

I am impartial to quite a few, but I don’t have a favourite per se. These include Miyanaga Saki (Saki), Sanya V. Litvyak (Strike Witches), Miyafuji Yoshika (Strike Witches), Akemi Homura (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and Nakamura Yuri (Angel Beats!).

3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?

Anything by Kajiura Yuki. I am impartial to anything that contains a chorus, an orchestra and generally contains more minors than an entire elementary school. Kajiura’s music pretty much fits the bill.

4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?

My favourite OP(s) ever are not from an anime, but from two visual novels by the same company, minori.

ef -the first tale-:Yukyuu no Tsubasa by Hitomi Harada, animated by Makoto Shinkai (5 Centimetres per Second).

ef -the latter tale-: Emotional Flutter by Hitomi Harada, can’t remember if the animator is still Shinkai…

5. What is your favorite anime ending + animation?

SHAFT + supercell.

6. What is your favorite anime scene?

Kara no Kyoukai’s fight scenes. Any of them. But especially the one where Ayaka uses her ability in episode 6, and ‘sprinter’ starts playing in the background. I almost cried from awesome.

Alternatively, Persona 4’s Persona spam in episode 12. Most awesome shit ever. I just hope the ending will be even better.

7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?

I never want to meet an anime character. I take pride in keeping a strong divide between anime and my real life.

8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?

From /a/:

  • Go to Akinator
  • Say “yes” when it asks you if your character is from an anime
  • Answer the questions as if they are about yourself

9. What is your favourite thing about anime?

I like how animations studios sometimes troll their fans. Like, y’know, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Currently my most loved series of all time, partly for the trolling, and mostly for Gen Urobuchi, Akiyuki Shinbo, Kajiura Yuki and number 17(see below).

10. What is your least favourite thing about anime?

Fiction in general has a tendency to be pretentious. Anime sometimes takes this to an entirely new level. Pretending to be deep or significant when the anime is clearly not, however, is the biggest turn-off for me.

11. Who’s your favourite anime couple?

Hard to say. Canon ships are always fine, but I don’t have a favourite per se.

For games, though, I’ve always wanted to see P3P’s female and male MC get down to business, but that’s kinda like going out with yourself, so yeah.

12. Who is your favourite anime animal?

Kyubey. No competitors at all. I have a thing for cute little things that also happen to be the biggest assholes you’ll ever meet.

Well, maybe Chamo-kun from Negima!. Because he is also an asshole.

13. What anime would make a good game?

Persona 4, herp derp

But in all seriousness, Cat Shit One.

14. What game would make a good anime?

Touhou Project, when are you getting a proper anime adaptation? The Macross Missile Massacre (TVTROPES LINK) in this show would top everything (and every budget) ever seen before. Frilly lolis throwing entire armies’ worth of bullets at each other? Colour me interested. More Dakka!

15. What was the first anime you ever watched?

Cardcaptor Sakura. I used to wonder why Syaoran blushed so much when he was talking to Yukito, and I came to the startling conclusion that one of them was probably a female. Now the only thing I wonder about was how that kind of scene managed to make its way onto primetime children’s TV in my semi-homophobic country.

16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?

Someday I’ll have to stop, I guess. Like when I’m six feet underground.

17. What is your favorite genre of anime?

Ones where lots of cute little girls fight and/or die. I am serious. I believe I may also be sadistic. Just a hunch.

18. What is your least favorite genre of anime?

Ecchi. Bouncing animated boobs turn me off big time. Cliched walk-in-on-bathroom scenes make me headdesk. Unless it’s Yabuki Kentaro’s work (To Love-Ru), then it’s A-OK!

19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?

With other people who watch anime, yes.

With people who don’t, no. I talk about photography and drawing and the weather or politics or something.

20. Have you ever been to Japan?

Someday, once I stop spending like a duke and save up enough money.

21. What anime was the biggest letdown for you?

11eyes. I was expecting a nice show with lots of battles and stuff. I instead got some weird ecchi stuff and the protagonist not even using his power until more than halfway through the show. The worst part? It led me to believe every episode that the next one would involve him using his power. So I couldn’t drop it.

22. What anime was better than expected?

For the current season, Rinne no Lagrange. I was expecting a stereotypical mecha show with robots and stuff; I instead got three cute girls and a lot of scenery porn – my kind of stuff. Lovely.

Also, Mouretsu Pirates. Guess what? They’re both by the same director. I have a new favourite now.

23. What is the best anime fight scene?

The scene between Lancer and Saber in Fate/Zero episode 4. THE ANIMATORS DID THEIR RESEARCH. Western swordplay depends heavily on foot movement, and there were multiple moments where they focused on the feet; also, that one bit where Saber parries the lance, then while using her sword to keep it to the side, dashes in toward Lancer? TRUTH. One of those rare moments where swordfights do not involve lots of white streaks rushing toward each other.

Alternatively, any of the fight scenes in Kara no Kyoukai, or in Cat Shit One (I love guns).

24. Who is your anime waifu?

I hate the term ‘waifu’, and I will never have one. Anime is strictly on-screen for me.

25. What was your favorite video game as a child?

Not anime-related. Need for Speed. I still love my cars.

Personal: aka the boring part

26. Most embarrassing moment?

I’d rather not share this here.

27. Can you drive?

Not yet.

28. Are you mature?

That’s like asking me if I like the shape of my ass. I can’t tell, someone else has to tell me.

29. What year were you born?

1992.

30. Do you prefer dogs or cats?

No preference. Cats are cute and all, but dogs are so friendly. Dog Days didn’t hurt their case too much either.

31. Describe yourself physically.

Tall-ish, but not lanky.

32. What would you name your first child?

Girl: Marisa

I haven’t yet considered any guy names. As you can see, I have a rather obvious preference for girls…

33. What is the worst injury you’ve ever had?

A torn ligament that I am still suffering from, actually.

34. What is your worst habit?

Procrastina… I’ll fill this bit out later

35. Do you drink or smoke?

I drink a lot of tea and I smoke a lot on essays. I think that counts.

36. Do you have a tattoo?

What’s a tattoo, can you eat it?

37. Are you a morning or a night person?

If I sleep early, a morning person; if I sleep late, a night person. What I definitely am not is an afternoon person.

38. Have you ever slept past midday?

My biological clock demands me to wake up before 11am, regardless my sleeping time. Sleep at 2 – wake at 9. Sleep at 4 – wake at 10. Sleep at 6 – what’s sleep?

39. Do you regret anything?

OH GOD WHY

40. Can you count the number of friends that you have on one hand?

Very close friends, i.e. friends I call out regularly for random chats and stuff – two hands. Normal friends, i.e. friends I call out once in a while – way too many.

41. Do you wear glasses?

I have this strange belief that everyone in AOIA wears glasses. No exceptions.

42. Are you a picky eater?

My other names include ‘Human Garbage Dump’ and ‘The Ravager’. What do you think?

43. Would you die for someone?

If I knew the person and I go out in a flashy way, like playing rock-paper-scissors with the Reaper.

But really, I can’t know until the time comes.

44. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

If other people had superpowers as well, Peter Petrelli’s (Heroes) original power. Empathic mimicry – or, the ability to use every damned superpower you’ve ever seen in your life. Life is your oyster!

45. Do you believe in the supernatural?

Nope. But sometimes, lying awake at night in my bed with pitch darkness just outside, maybe, just maybe, there’s something out there…

46. Would you rather be rich or famous?

Who doesn’t want to be rich? But I’d like to be famous in my own way.

47. Have you ever committed a crime?

Petty crimes like disobeying rules and stuff. They kind of count as crimes in the army. But the major stuff, like homicide, rape and shoplifting – nah.

48. Time traveler or ghost?

Time traveler. It’s a very romantic thing, isn’t it? After all,

what could go wrong?

49. Does anybody have a crush on you?

I’d hope so. But I’m not that sensitive to my surroundings that I can pick up faint feelings for me.

50. Are you in a relationship?

Family to my family, friends to my friends – and the perpetual leader of the Temporarily Alone Club (offshoot of the FAC, circa 2011).
