Anthromorphic animals – Good or Bad?

(This post was written on the 22nd of September. Valence predicts that he’s probably dropping in from time to time to reply to comments, completely breaking the promise he set with everyone.)

Anthromorphic animals seem to be all the rage these days. In almost every few shows about slice-of-life you’d get people wearing animal ears at one point. But let’s take this to the extreme -what about animals which look like humans? For instance, Wanko to Kurasou, which features ‘Anthropoid Animals’, which refer to animals that look just like humans. Being a H-Game, any self-conscious player would be asking themselves this : “Am I watching a sex scene, or am I watching bestiality?” They look exactly like a human, talk like human beings, and of course, have sex like human beings, but fundamentally they are after all, dogs , cats and whatnot.

It seems that the audience is slowly being swayed towards the notion of “Catgirls = Good” by the likes of Azu-nyan and Kuro Kagami amongst several other examples. Animal ears make characters awesome, so it seems. But what about the likes of Mikan or Horo? They are not human , but they look like humans , that’s for sure – eventually it leads to a conflict, especially in the case of Mikan, Horo not so much.

In other words, I’m downloading Spice and Wolf doujins again.

i dont think characters are “fundamentally” human or animals. after all, it’s the appearances that really count (and drive the entire ecchi industry anyway)

in other words, anthro is still rather soft core deviation LOL

It’s like people fap to things they don’t even know what they are. It’s like having to choose two doors, standing behind one of which is a woman, and the other, a plastic model of that woman, or a dog or something. I don’t know.

And yes, anthro is still deviation…

Does it really matter if they have the mind of a human or an animal? I’m sure most people that are into this kind of stuff will be happy as long as it looks like a girl and has some animal ears/tail.

    • Valence says:

I’m way too self-conscious, I guess. I read Horo doujins by the truckload and still I wonder whether it’s classified as bestiality or not.

But that’s for the people who are ‘into’ this kind of stuff. What if you weren’t as ‘into’ it as others? Hmm.

      • Ming Xuan says:

Well, Horo is kinda a god.

At least you are not like my classmate who is raging over Happy, yes that male cat with wings from Fairy Tail. Oh, and he spends time repeatedly drawing the icon of Fairy Tail with different colours.

  3. Ryanime says:

I never thought of Azu-nyan as a catgirl – she was just a young cute girl (I never watched enough of K-on to get a feel for her personality).

Horo on the other hand is a human in one form and a giant wolf in another. I feel like Horo’s personality was the key to Horo – whether she was or was not a wolf in human would not have mattered to be at all as long as she kept the same personality.

On a sidenote, there is a girl in my school, in one of my classes, that wears two tails (a black and a white) everyday. It’s rather odd to see a girl with a tail, let alone two.

    • Valence says:

I mean, a girl with cat ears. Azunyan doesn’t really qualify, but Azunyan is Azunyan….

Horo is love. I don’t know why, but I suppose it’s her character that attracts me more than anything else.

Also, that’s kinda weird. Once I saw this jacket at my local starbucks with cat ears and tail attached, only to find that a 40-something old lady was wearing it . . .

  4. Yi says:

Haha, is it bestiality or furry to like nekomimi? I don’t really know either. There is no doubt Azunyan is super cute though.

  5. Ming Xuan says:

Now for the important fact, did you play Wanko to Kuraso?

  6. Ex14 says:

Tbh. I think it’s not that co mplicated, ratyher i think the whole point of having cat/wolf girl/guys is pretty simple. esp in the case of Spice and Wolf, I feel the writers just trying to show the typical “love conquer all” theme in a new way? anyother emotions than that might just be because of our hormonesXDD

    • Valence says:

But that doesn’t explain the vast majority of wolf/cat/dog/misc. animal-eared characters out there. Most of them are either humour, sex, or sexual humour.

  7. Shance says:

I think it’s safe to say that anthromorphism is a solid excuse to moe-fy characters, whether or not said characters stay true to their animalistic natures.

  8. ArkStrike says:

I Played Wanko To Kurasou till the very end and i never tought about that… But i could say that it is in the middle! half bestiality and half sex scene… you are watching a half human having sex… i dont think i see it very troubling… Anyway! did you liked the game? which was your favourite H-scene? did you cry or fell sad someway? i couldnt avoid but cry in the last part of the game because i tought she died before reaching yuuichi… I would worship anyone EVEN the devil to have an sequel of this game or even better an anime!

    • Valence says:

I mean, you know it’s a dog but it looks like a human ._. Feels weird to me.

And I must admit I teared up a little before it’s revealed that she doesn’t die. Nice ending, nice route. The other route, not so much. . . . .

      • ArkStrike says:

Yeah… I can`t say that i didn`t fell like that when i had the first scene with mikan… And yes… The Risa route is basically like an true ending for those who play the game for the first time… The Nadesicho route is for those who would like more h-scenes or/and to know how things would have gone with her… I prefer the risa route for the fun but the nadesicho route i only liked it because it give the history of the game more texture…

        • Valence says:

Nadesicho route was kind of disappointing. It’s like all they do is meet up, make love, then gtfo. Too many H-Scenes and less development.

          Risa route was fun, definitely.

          • ArkStrike says:

Yeah… The Risa route definitely is more complex and breathtaking history, Nadeshico is more for FAP people i think… Still disappointed that this masterpiece didnt get any futher… And whats with Ivory?! This was the last thing they maked!

            • Valence says:

It’s the last game they made? Damn.

              • ArkStrike says:

Yeah… Look at the Wikipedia page in Japanese… use an translator to see what it says… Dont worry! its not really problematic to know what it means even with the bad translations… Oh! And if you sawed something in the official page of Ivory someone told me that it could be a person that is just tricking people making them think that Ivory is still working… Or Perhaps they DO are into something…
